What is The Naked Historian?

Where did I come up with The Naked Historian? Well, if you are familiar with my books, you probably know that I choose my subject matter from ideas that haven’t been done before. There were no books that I was aware of about Fredericksburg’s houses of worship before, during and after the Civil War or a book about Confederate encampments in and around Spotsylvania County. That’s exactly why I wrote them. Those projects inspired me to do an online video blog about little known historic sites in my area.

This county is so saturated with well-known history that I love the challenge of finding places that are not well-known. The name “Naked Historian” was inspired from The Naked Archeologist which is a show on the History Channel in which Simcha Jacobovici examines biblical stories and tries to find proof for them. “Naked” to me means unscripted and unplanned. I’m always improvising my presentation. What you see is what you get. I love researching each location and most of them have little material. It’s a challenge to come up with anything worth repeating.

I love knowing that my viewers enjoy the episodes. That’s the whole point of doing them. I’m always on the lookout for that neglected location that is begging for some attention. As long as I can find the good ones The Naked Historian will go on. If you haven’t done so, check out The Naked Historian on YouTube.
